International Workshop on
HYBRID SYSTEMS: MODELING, SIMULATION AND OPTIMIZATION
14-17 May 2008
Koc University, Istanbul, Turkey
Hybrid systems are complex systems that exhibit discrete event as well as continuous time dynamics governed by differential and difference equations. Recent technological innovations have caused a considerable interest in the study of dynamical processes described by hybrid systems. Many systems in engineering and science can be considered as hybrid systems: continuous systems with phased operation (biological cell growth and division, walking robots), controlled by discrete logic (thermostats, aircraft autopilot modes, automobile automatic transmissions, chemical plants with valves and pumps), and coordinating processes (air and ground transportation systems, swarms of air vehicles).
The Workshop on Hybrid Systems Modeling, Simulation and Optimization focuses on the modeling, simulation, control and optimization of hybrid systems. The workshop will provide researchers working in the field of hybrid systems, PhD students and general postgraduate level audience an overview of the methods used and discussions on the recent developments. The main aim is to identify emerging issues and research opportunities in the area of Hybrid Systems.

Interested researchers in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics and all disciplines of engineering are invited to submit 1 page abstract by sending e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org. The contributed papers will be delivered as oral (20 minutes) or poster presentations. The authors should indicate their choice of delivery method.
Journal of Process Control will publish a special issue on Hybrid Systems: Modeling, Simulation and Optimization a topic that is also the theme of the international workshop to be held at Koç University, İstanbul, Turkey, May 14-17, 2008.
All submissions must be focused on the topic of the special issue and belong to the general scope of Journal of Process Control. The main challenge and principal goal of this premium special issue is to contribute to the foundations hybrid systems and applications of hybrid systems methodology to interesting problems. Guest Editors: Prof. Dr. Lorenz T. Biegler, Prof. Dr. Bülent Karasözen, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Metin Türkay.
